CCMB’s Dr Chandak shortlisted for Sun Pharma Science Foundation Research Award

Hyderabad: The Principal Scientist of the Hyderabad-based Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Dr. GR Chandak, has been shortlisted for the Sun Pharma Science Foundation-2021 Research Award in the Medical Sciences-Clinical Research category.

Dr. Chandak is a Chief Scientist leading a research group at CCMB involved in understanding the genetic basis of complex disorders such as type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic pancreatitis and its interaction with various environmental factors (epigenetic basis) .

The main objective of Dr. Chandak’s research group is to identify various genetic and nutritional factors (and their interaction), which influence the “Indian thin fat phenotype”, and various intermediate traits that predict a higher risk of developing a diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

The Sun Pharma Science Foundation Research Awards recognize excellence in original research in medical and pharmaceutical sciences by Indian scientists working in India and NRI scientists working abroad. The research awards are in these categories including Medical Sciences (Basic Research), Medical Sciences (Clinical Research) and Pharmaceutical Sciences, with each award carrying a trophy, citation and cash prize of Rs.2,50,000 .
