Happy Friday New York Islanders fans. We’re less than a week away from prospects heading to Long Island, to kick off the New York Islanders’ version of development camp, followed by the main group a week later.
Before we dive into Thursday’s news and events, our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Queen Elizabeth II, the people she served, including our Canadian neighbors to the north.
The National Hockey League mourns the passing and celebrates the remarkable life of Queen Elizabeth II. She held a special place in the hearts of Canadians and, during her 70-year reign, associated herself with our sport in memorable ways. pic.twitter.com/ppgk5HZzFQ

Thursday night was a pretty big night for a current New York Islander, and his foundation held an amazing charity event on Long Island.
New York Islanders fourth-row crusher Matt Martin has given it his all on the ice during his tenure on Long Island, as well as off the ice. The Matt Martin Foundation, which started in August 2015, has raised money for countless charities over the past seven years. And on Thursday night, the Matt Martin Foundation hosted its sixth annual charity poker tournament at Chateau Briand.
If you wanted to play poker against New York Islanders, past and present, the donation was $200, and if you wanted to come watch, the cost of donating a spectator ticket was $100.
Money raised from the event will be donated to five different charities: NYPD Widows & Orphans Fund, Boomer Esiason Foundation for Cystic Fibrosis Research, Islanders Childrens Foundation, ACDS School for Children with Autism and Downe Syndrome, and Defending The Blue Line.
Based on social media posts, it looked like the event was another success for the Matt Martin Foundation, the charities that will benefit from it, as well as the Long Island community.
Matt Martin had a handful of teammates at his event, with photos surfacing the web of Casey Cizikas, Mathew Barzal, Kieffer Bellows, Ryan Pulock, Oliver Wahlstrom, Alexander Romanov, Ilya Sorokin, Cal Clutterbuck and Noah Dobson.
There were probably others.
Ilya Sorokin had fun with one of the fans who attended the event.
