The Haines Family Fund encourages community philanthropy – Shaw Local

SYCAMORE – The Michael and Lana Haines Family Fund was established through the DeKalb County Community Foundation.

The new donor-driven fund will align with the charitable interests of the Haines family and provide a means for them to participate in philanthropy. Some of their charitable interests include promoting education and literacy, protecting land, improving access to food and health care, and providing gardening and organic and sustainable agriculture, according to a press release.

Michael and Lana Haines met and graduated from Northern Illinois University and lived in DeKalb for several years before moving to Malta. Michael earned a master’s degree in mental health from NIU and worked for the non-profit addiction treatment center Mother Sunshine and at NIU as Director of NIU Health Enhancement Services. Lana earned a degree in education and worked as a special education teacher at Waterman and DeKalb.

The Haines established the Haines Family Fund in 2021 to instill generosity in their children and grandchildren.

Donations to any Community Foundation fund, including the Haines Family Fund, can be made online at or by mail to the DeKalb Count Community Foundation, 475 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore.
